Govt cuts excise duty, service tax

Giving relief to the industry reeling under the impact of slowdown, the government today reduced the rates of excise duty and service tax.
While the general excise duty has been reduced from 10 per cent to 8 per cent, the rate of service tax has been cut from 12 per cent to 10 per cent.
Four per cent excise cut announced earlier in the stimulus package in December will continue beyond March 31, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said while winding up the debate on the Interim Budget in the Lok Sabha today.
The Lok Sabha later approved the Interim Budget by voice vote, amidst a walkout by the Opposition BJP and erstwhile supporters Left parties.
Mukherjee further said that duty on bulk cement has been reduced from 10 per cent to 8 per cent.

Maha Shivaratri – 23rd Feruary,2009

shiva Mahashivaratri falls on the 13th or the 14th night of the new moon during Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Phalgun. The Sanskrit term, Krishna Paksha means the period of waning moon or the dark fortnight and Phalguna corresponds to the month of February - March in English Calendar. Shivaratri Festival is celebrated on a moonless night.
According to Hindu mythology, Shivaratri or 'Shiva's Great Night' symbolizes the wedding day of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Many however, believe, Shivaratri is the night when Lord Shiva performed the Tandava Nritya - the dance of primordial creation, preservation and destruction. Celebrating the festival in a customary manner, devotees give a ritual bath to the Lingam with the panchagavya - milk, sour milk, urine, butter and dung. Celebrations of Shivaratri Festival mainly take place at night. Devotees of Lord Shiva throng Shiva temples across the country and spend ‘the Night of Lord Shiva’ by chanting verses and hymns in praise of the Lord. The festival holds special meaning for the ladies. They pray to Goddess Parvati also called 'Gaura', the giver of 'suhag' for good husbands, marital bliss and a long and prosperous married life.

This Year Shivaratri carries special significance since it is falling on Monday which is also considered as Day of Lord Shiva. In India, Unmarried girls keep fast on Mondays to please Lord Shiva and pray for a good husband.

delhi6 Delhi 6 is a delightful musical run through the Hindu and Muslim cultures of Old Delhi as seen through the eyes of protagonist Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) who comes to India to fulfill the desire of his terminally ill Daadi (Waheeda Rehman) to spend the last days of her life in her hometown. As Roshan after a brief culture shock, tries to understand the complexities of relations that kept his people apart from each other as well as close to each other, he slowly gets attached to Bittu (Sonam Kapoor) and the chemistry grows, which is very convincingly directed using rich background music and believable day-to-day situations. Hug Day

hug day The Hug day is celebrated on 13th February. Hug is the best way to convey your feelings to your loved ones. When two bodies come together for a hug , it’s a feeling which can not be described in words. You get lost in a entirely different world of joy and happiness. So hug your near and dear ones today and show them that you really think and care for them.

Best ways of Hugging ?

A wrong way of hug may give a different interpretation to the person you are hugging. I came across an interesting article on “How to Hug ?” on  a Wikihows.  It describes the approach to Hug and different ways of hugging for each relationship.  Hugs have been classified as family hug, Friend Hug (Girl), Friend Hug (Boys), Crush Hug and Lover Hug.

Kiss Day

kiss day Today is Kiss day in the series of Valentine Week and this is the most awaited day. Why not ? Here is a chance to kiss your valentine. After days of Gifts, Chocolates, Teddy’s and promises you surely deserve a smooching kiss. Be passionate and keep your eyes close while kissing your partner. Keeping your eyes open is a sign of betrayal. I agree you wouldn’t know if the other partner has his/her eyes open or not , but my advice it don’t experiment this today. Believe your partner. Trust is the biggest asset for any relationship !

Valentine Promise Day

promiseday Now this is going to be tricky one. After Rose, Chocolates and Teddy, it’s time to get down from the cloud nine and make a realistic promise to your valentine.  Be realistic ‘cos your valentine is going to take it by heart and if you make a promise that you can’t fulfil, you are in for a trouble. So don’t promise stars or white house. Promise something you can deliver. Moreover, a promise should be one which is relevant to the other person. This way you make sure that you head towards a happy Valentine day !

Teddy Bear Day

teddy Feb 10 is celebrated by valentines as Teddy day or Teddy Bear day.  Your loved ones would expect you to gift them a cudlly, smoochy, soft teddy bears to hug (This is a game plan). In few days you would be offering yourself for a hug !  ha..ha..ha. So don’t forget to gift a Teddy bear to your loved ones.

Valentine Week – Rose Day

roseday The Valentine Week has started and it will be week full of showing your love and care towards your near and dear ones. Each day of the Valentine week has a special significance and it moves across the love chain from Proposal to Hug Day.

The 7 days of Valentine Week are celebrated as follows :

  7th Feb  is   Rose Day
  8th Feb  is  Propose Day
  9th Feb  is  Chocolate Day
10th Feb  is  Teddy Day
11th Feb  is  Promise Day
12th Feb  is  Kiss Day
13th Feb  is  Hug Day
14th Feb  is  VALENTINE’S DAY

Happy Valentine Week !!
